England finished Day 2 on 119/3, 245 runs behind India at stumps. Joe Root and Rory Burns accumulated 85 runs before Mohammed Shami ended the partnership by dismissing England opener Joe Root for 49 runs. Openers Dom Sibley and Burns batted safely for 14 overs to get England to 23/0 at tea, but Mohammed Siraj struck off successive balls in the first over of the final session to eliminate Sibley and Haseeb Hameed. Earlier, India were bowled out for 364 in their first innings, with James Anderson taking his 31st five-wicket haul in Test cricket. England dominated the second day's morning session, taking four wickets for 70 runs.

Moeen Ali dismissed Shami for a duck, while Mark Wood had Rishabh Pant caught behind after the wicketkeeper batsman struck 37 off 58 balls and helped India reach over 300 runs alongside Ravindra Jadeja. In the second day of the Lord's Test, England got off to a flying start, taking two wickets in the opening two overs. The second ball of the day, Ollie Robinson dismissed centurion KL Rahul, followed by Anderson dismissing the other overnight batsmen, Ajinkya Rahane, caught at first slip.

And that will be the day's final ball. Day 2 at Lord's ended with India falling 7 runs short of their target. India's first-innings score of 364 was considerably ahead of England's 119/3. India is the host of yet another session. Despite the fact that Root and Burns accumulated 85 runs for the third wicket, India won the session because they took three wickets - two in the beginning and one near the end.
