However, facing Australia, which is presently ranked second in the FIH Rankings, would be a difficult assignment for the Rani Rampal-led team.

Gurjit Kaur was India's hero, scoring her first Olympic goal in the 22nd minute to advance India to the last four of the Tokyo Olympics, where they will face Argentina, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, or the United Kingdom.

Gurjit scored on a penalty corner, a first for India in this Olympics and the first for the Hockeyroos to concede on a PC.

From there, India managed to hang on to their lead, fending off wave after wave of Australian onslaught to achieve a hat-trick of victories. On Monday, Argentina defeated Germany 3-0 in the first quarterfinal.

India saved an incredible eight penalty corners while converting the one they did get in the match to claim one of the most legendary victories in Olympic history.
