 1983 WORLD CUP CRICKETER YASHPAL SHARMA DIED

My today blog is started with sad news. Sad news for all cricket fans of INDIA.

On Tuesday morning, former Indian cricketer and 1983 World Cup winner Yashpal Sharma died of a heart arrest.

In 1983, he was an important member of Kapil Dev's World Cup-winning team in England. Sharma, India's second-highest run scorer in the tournament after Kapil Dev, scored 240 runs in eight innings, including two half-centuries.

In 1979, he made his Test debut for India on a tour of England, and in October 1983, he completed his 37-test career. In Delhi, he hit an undefeated century against Australia, and in Chennai, against England, he hit 140 in a Test match. In Test cricket, he racked up 1606 runs at a 33.45 average.

Sharma's legacy in Indian cricket, on the other hand, will be defined by his role in the team's World Cup victory in 1983. He had a fantastic start to the competition, scoring 89 against the West Indies in India's opening match and assisting the team in defeating the defending champions. After that, he had a run of poor scores before getting a key 40 against Australia in a game that the team needed to win.

Yashpal scored 61, the highest score for the team, as India advanced to the semi-finals for the first time, as they chased down England's goal of 214 to reach the final. The final against the West Indies was a low-scoring affair, with Sharma making 11 runs to help India reach a 183-run total.
After working as a national selector for a few years till December 2005, Yashpal was appointed to the panel in 2008. He was also a regular guest on TV news programmes as a cricket expert.
Kapil Dev couldn't hold back his tears as he remembered his former India teammate Yashpal Sharma, who died this morning after suffering a major heart arrest. Yashpal was an important part of India's World Cup victory in 1983, when Kapil was captain.
The 66-year-old fainted at home after returning from his morning walk, according to PTI.
“I still cannot believe that this (news of Yashpal's death) is true,” Kapil stated in an interview with a news programmed. We met last week, and he appeared to be in good health. "I can't change what God has decreed."
